Social Enterprise Regeneration Programme proves vital to social enterprises

Over the past five months, our team has been supporting several social enterprises through the Social Enterprise Regeneration Programme. The programme was rolled out by the Department of Rural and Community Development and provides valuable support through training and mentoring to help social enterprises strengthen their operations and improve their services.

Social enterprises play a vital role in their local communities and work primarily to improve the lives of people. Their core objective is to achieve a social, societal, or environmental impact. Like other businesses, social enterprises pursue their objectives by trading in goods and services on an ongoing basis. However, surpluses generated by social enterprises are re-invested into achieving their core social objectives, rather than maximising profit for their owners.  They frequently work to support disadvantaged groups such as the long-term unemployed, people with disabilities, the Traveller community, etc., or to address issues such as food poverty, social housing, or environmental matters.

IRD Duhallow CLG and Avondhu Blackwater Partnership have played an important role in the management of the programme.  Platinum Brand Communications role was to provide mentoring support and GDPR training.  The social enterprises have benefited greatly from the SERP mentoring programme. The mentoring offered insightful advice, accountability, support and encouragement and helped the social enterprises avoid common mistakes and focus on the highest priorities.
